Set Big Goals

impossible1What are you going to accomplish this year?  When asked to set goals, most people think about what they believe is possible to accomplish and in most cases they already have an idea of how to get there.  But this is the type of thinking that can impose arbitrary  constraints on what can really be achieved.  In general, people want to succeed and if they are faced with a goal that they immediately don’t know how to accomplish, their first reaction is that it can’t be done.

I love setting big goals but it’s often tough to get people to buy into them.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard the words “that’s impossible” followed by a list of reasons why the goal can’t be accomplished. Impossible? I think not. My answer was always the same  “Just because you don’t know how to do it doesn’t mean it can’t be done.”  And so off they would go huffing and puffing about how unrealistic the whole idea was and how I was crazy to think it could even be done.  But given time, some inspiration and coaching, these same people would begin to look for a solution and 9 times out of 10, they found a way to achieve the impossible.

Setting big goals makes people leave their comfort zone, stretch their imagination, and inspires them to try new and innovative things.  Given a challenge and the right support, it is amazing what people can accomplish.

So what are you going to accomplish this year?  The possibilities are endless.
